Are You Gritchy? It Could Be Depression

“DON’T LET PEOPLE NORMALIZE IT. ASK FOR HELP!”

At a recent Via Christi’s Women’s Connection event, speaker Dr. Connie Marsh explained that depression has many faces such as anger, anxiety, withdrawal tendencies, insecurity, eating disorders, irregular sleep patterns and on and on.

Why is this important to know if depression is at the core of these issues?

Because, as Dr. Marsh explained, the repercussions of untreated depression are or can be devastating to careers, families, relationships and our health for sure. Plus, the sooner it is diagnosed correctly and give proper treatment, the easier and better chance for recovering normal life patterns.

Flowers for Lola

Upon returning to my home after a visit with my 90-year-old special lady friend, Lola, I am recalling some of my late dad’s words to me at the NC beach house while he observed me with tons of family around, “Mitz, you are never going to be alone.”

He meant of course that no matter what happens to me in my lifetime, my family will be there for me.

And, I am thankful for that fact as Lola and I talked today in the nursing home.

It is not that I may not dwell somewhere like that, but I know that I know I will really never be alone.

Every single year now that as I age, I am so aware of how different life is now for us baby boomers from just one generation ago. I am constantly hearing or meeting someone whose life’s path is so completely different from what they ever anticipated.

Christmas Has Come to Cypress

Christmas has come to our home, Cypress!

It doesn’t matter that I’ve decorated for Christmas 40-plus times before. There is a specialness that only this season brings each year.

When the kids were growing up, we did all the holidays as Easter and such. But never did those decorations bring the glow to wherever we were living at the time like Christmas does, ever.

This is part two of two in this series – where you’ll get my thoughts on warming drawers, dishwashers, ovens, refrigerators and more.

Let me know what you think in the comments – I’d love to hear how your ideal kitchen would be set up and why.

After my recent vlog, “The True Heart of Cypress,” I thought it would be great to follow up with a closer look at the appliances I chose to include in my kitchen and why.

This is part one of two in this series – where you’ll get my thoughts on cooktops, warming drawers and more. I’ll even fill you in on why I made an exception to one of my own kitchen design “cardinal sins” of putting an appliance in an island.

Let me know what you think in the comments – I’d love to hear how your ideal kitchen would be set up and why.

Why I am Thankful at Thanksgiving

The older I get, the higher my gratitude meter needs to goes up & up & up.

Why?

Because if I am not grateful for all that I have now, right now @ this very time, what does that say about me?

It says that I am not acknowledging my faults of being a perfectionist, always striving for new and higher goals, and my fears of insecurity and anxiety if I do not obtain these often unrealistic goals. And to me, contentment without a grateful heart is impossible.

And yes, the flip side of these traits is all good stuff as long as I am grateful for where I am and what I have and what I have accomplished in the right here and the right now.

So, here is my “THANKFUL” @ this THANKSGIVING @ this age & stage of my life.

My FAITH is my ultimate above all and everything in my life.

I am only doing what I am doing because of a life-giving sustaining faith that fills me with hope and joy and peace no matter my circumstances.
