I am so excited about this new video series, Face of Design, which will showcase different design facets, and how form follows function, in our Cypress home. This week, we’ll take a look at our guest suite, designed specifically to accommodate short or long term guests. It is built with it’s own sitting area, bedroom and bathroom, and connects to our screened-in porch. For more details, check out the video!
Gorgeous, yes? But is it safe? Is it #BoomerSmarts?
Let’s talk about it!
Come and join me this Wednesday, Oct. 1st on Twitter, as I guest host Stacy Garcia’s Kitchen and Bath Tribe Chat [ #kbtribechat ] at 2 pm ET, 1 pm CT, 12 pm MT and 11 am PT for a fun, 1 hour conversation on
BATHROOMS: CAN THEY BE BOTH SAFE AND LUXURIOUS?
For those of you who might not be familiar with the #KBTribeChat [ http://twitter.com/kbtribechat ], it is a chat that was started by Stacy, who with her husband owns a company called Garcia Cabinetmakers in Huntington Beach, California [ here’s an interview post on The Decor Girl’s blog with Stacy, about her business.]. Stacy’s popular weekly Twitter chat brings together kitchen and bath design pros + the brands that support them, to talk about all things kitchen and bath related every Wednesday on Twitter.
This week, Stacy asked me to guest host her chat on one of the topics most important to me and to my interior design clients here in Wichita: bathrooms and how we can make them both safe AND luxurious.
She wrote a post on the #kbtribechat blog, linked to below, which shares the 4 questions we will be asking.
If you’ve never participated in a Twitter chat before, here’s a graphic showing you how to to do it.
I hope you’ll join in or listen in this Wednesday, October 1st on Twitter, at 2 pm ET, as everyone shares their tips on how to make #BoomerSmarts bathrooms both safe and luxurious.
Here’s an example of one I designed for a client of mine here in Wichita, that won an award locally.
If you haven’t seen my new videos about the #BoomerSmarts bathroom planning that Bob and I did for our own home, Cypress, the home I call our living laboratory for my #BoomerSmarts design principles, I invite you to please click here.
Thank you and I hope to see you Wednesday with Stacy on her #KBTribeChat at 2 pm ET!

Just like last week’s post, this week’s video is all about Boomer bathrooms! Last time, you saw my shower, and today, you’ll get an inside look at the bathtub setup in my home, Cypress. The area is complete with a tub deck and dimmer lights and is 100% #BoomerSmarts approved!
Today, being Monday, I’d like to share with you what I will be doing at High Point Market next month and, if you’re not going to High Point Market – but only need good #BoomerSmarts advice for your own bathrooms, stop reading now, and please see my bathroom videos for you that I posted over the weekend on my video channel on The Design Network, here.
However, if you are attending High Point Market or are just still interested in what I will be doing there, please continue reading below.
I am once again honored to be part of the official #HPMkt Stylespotter program that I also participated in this past Spring. This year, the High Point Marketing Authority chose to keep all of us who are StyleSpotters in place for both the Spring 2014 and Fall 2014 markets.
I am delighted to be joining my fellow StyleSpotters in less than a month now and I invite you to meet them all below, further into this post, where we will spot and pin what we find exciting and newsworthy at #HPMkt, the world’s largest wholesale furniture market – attracting 75,000 visitors from all over the world – including editors, designers, retailers and exhibitors- twice a year to High Point, North Carolina, the furniture capital of the world.
The official hashtag to follow for High Point Market itself is #HPMkt and another official tag the StyleSpotters will be using is: #HPMKTss and I invite you to follow both of them, if you use social media, too.
This market, I’ll be looking to stylespot products that are #BoomerSmarts to highlight those exhibitors manufacturing what you, my readers and you, my video channel viewers, are interested in seeing and if you’re a #HPMkt exhibitor that has a product that you think will interest my readers and viewers, please email me information about it to: firstname.lastname@example.org so I can see it before I arrive. Sometimes, I get so busy after I arrive that I can’t make it to every showroom that I’d like to make it to, and this will help me with scheduling. Thank you!
Also, if you have a product that you would like me to review for potential inclusion in my consumer facing onsite directory for #BoomerSmarts products that will go live shortly after I return from High Point Market, please email me to set up a meeting at High Point Market.
After I review it, and if it meets my criteria for being #BoomerSmarts, you will, for a fee, be able to have your product listed in my new onsite directory and I will also share it with the viewers of my video channel on The Design Network, with a link out to where they can buy it on your site, and you will be given the opportunity to license my new #BoomerSmarts seal of approval badge for use in your own marketing materials and on your own websites, too.
I’ll be delivering my 4 hour HSW IDCEC Approved CEU on Monday, between 2-6 pm at the new Hadley Court Center for Design Collaboration at the Bienenstock Furniture Library so my fellow designers who complete it will be able to use my trademarked Certified #BoomerSmarts Expert badge on their own websites to help their potential design clients know they’ve been trained by me. They will also be listed on my own site at https://mitzibeach.com as a Certified #BoomerSmarts expert so my site’s visitors can find them, wherever they may be around the country or the world.
Exhibitors, I am excited to see all of your new #BoomerSmarts products and to be able to help my fellow designers, through my IDCEC/NKBA approved HSW CEU, move their own businesses powerfully forward by learning how to help America’s 80 million baby boomers stay in their own homes as long as they would like and to find the products that will help them as they remodel or move to suit their evolving needs.
Designers: if you would like to sign up for this [ cost 250. ], please click the link below where you can use your credit card and pay with Pay Pal
Readers, after High Point market, please come back to my site to search for those designers who have taken this CEU and been trained by me so you can be assured they know every detail in how to design your home for #BoomerSmarts living, so you can feel safe and comfortable in it for as long as you would like and to search for those products that have met my criteria for being chic, safe and #BoomerSmarts, like the CARRIE wardrobe, designed by fellow StyleSpotter Gary Inman, from Moore Councill, that I stylespotted at last spring’s High Point Market, pictured here.
I’ll be participating in a panel discussion on BOOMERS vs. MILLENNIALS on Sunday, October 19th at noon, being moderated by StyleSpotter emeritus, designer Michelle Jennings – Wiebe, of Studio M Interiors in Tampa, being held in the High Point Market Theatre, as part of High Point Market and ASID’s jointly sponsored *Designer Viewpoints Series* – being sponsored this year by Horchow.
All who attend will receive a 1 hour general CEU credit.
NOW, PLEASE MEET MY FELLOW FALL 2014 HIGH POINT MARKET STYLESPOTTERS!
Left to right below, myself, designer Jeanne Choe Chung of Cozy Stylish Chic in Los Angeles, designer and TV personality Shay Geyer, owner of IBB Fine Furnishings in Dallas, Nicole Gibbons, of New York City who pens the blog So Haute Style and whose show on OWN, the Oprah Winfrey Network, Home Made Simple is a hit, Meredith Heron of Meredith Heron Design in Toronto, Canada, whose bathroom for the new DXV brand by American Standard was beautiful, Haskell Harris McKinney, style director of Garden and Gun magazine and writer of the popular blog, Magpie, Gary Inman, an interior and furniture designer with Glaves and Home in Richmond, Virginia [ whose CARRIE wardrobe for Moore Councill I spotted at the Spring Market, here ] and Denise McGaha of Denise McGaha Interiors in Dallas, who just became the brand ambassador for High Point exhibitor, Currey and Company and who wrote a very helpful post on *10 Tips For Conquering High Point Market*, here:
I am looking forward to seeing what everyone finds exciting at High Point Market and I want to thank all of the manufacturers and others who are preparing, these next 3 weeks for our arrival.
As part of the lead up to StyleSpotting at #HPMkt, I was thrilled to be interviewed by Rue Magazine – an official High Point Market media partner.
Thank you, Rue Magazine! To see 5 Minutes With Mitzi Beach on your site and on your Facebook Page with your 486,00o+ fans was beyond anything I could ever have imagined when I started my journey into social media for my #BoomerSmarts brand.
I can’t begin to tell you how humbled and grateful I am to you and to the High Point Marketing Authority for making these opportunities available to me.
Thank you #HPMkt!
Will you be attending any of my events at High Point Market? I hope so and, if so, please let me know your social media info in the comments so I can meet you and say hello!

This week and next, we are looking at some great features for Boomer bathrooms. In this video, you’ll get an inside look at the shower setup in my home, Cypress. The “spa experience” is complete with two shower heads, towel bar and external controls… 100% #BoomerSmarts approved!
Today, I’m excited to share with you my new CERTIFIED #BoomerSmarts EXPERT badge for your own websites and blogs, to help you build your businesses amongst potential clients, local to you, who want to know you’ve been trained by me in how to serve their unique and evolving needs.
Understanding the housing and interior design issues that are affecting homeowners 50+, America’s approx. 80 million baby boomers, will be big business over the coming years ahead. With the youngest of the 80 million boomers turning 50 this year – and 10,000 boomers a day turning 65 from now through 2030 — this is sure to be an area of growth for many of you who want to help your own customers and clients stay in their own homes as long as they would like to do so.
As 1 of America’s top experts in #BoomerSmarts design, as an author, speaker and educator, with my Masters In Interior Design and over 30 years of interior design experience and having built my own home, CYPRESS, as a living laboratory for the principles I teach, I am thrilled to now be able to help YOU build your businesses, too, in this easy new way by sharing with potential clients, local to you, on your own websites and blogs, this badge which indicates to them that you are THE local #BoomerSmarts expert in your area and that you’ve been trained by me.
Keep in mind, you don’t have to put this badge on your sites after you take my CEU, as it is not from a certified organizational body as is the CAPS certification, but if you would like to, I am offering it to you, for free, as an additional way to let your new potential clients know that you have furthered your education in this area through taking my #BoomerSmarts 4 hour CEU.
#BoomerSmarts: DESIGNING FOR AMERICA’s RICHEST GENERATION.
I will be delivering this new 4 hour CEU for the 1st time during the upcoming High Point Market, at the new Hadley Court Center For Design Collaboration at the Bienenstock Furniture Library on Monday, October 20th between 2-6 pm.
Would you like to sign up for it? If so, please click: https://mitzibeach.com/ceu-classes/ceu-sign-up/
In addition to offering my new 4 hour CEU offline at High Point Market, I will soon be offering it online, too, in [ 4 ] 1 hour installments via my new customized Go To Training channel -something I’ve been asked by many of you to make available. When it’s live, you will be able to use Pay Pal to watch each of the [4 ] 1 hour segments from your computers at home, at work or from anywhere else that’s convenient for you.
If you’d like to be notified when my new online training channel goes live, please give me your email address in the space provided for that on the homepage of my site:
To receive my badge for your websites or blogs, all you’ll need to do is to complete the short, quick test the IDCEC requires I administer for online CEU’s, and, as soon as I have word from the IDCEC that your CEU credit has been accepted, I will immediately send you the password to download my button or badge from my website, or both, for use on your own website or blog, if you’d like to use it.
In addition, I will be adding a directory to my own website, so I can help my site’s visitors find you – designers who are local to them- who have taken my 4 hour CEU. This is another way I can help elevate you and help you find new business for yourselves.
I will eventually expand this program to include real estate agents, decorators, stylists and stagers who would also like to have my Certified #BoomerSmarts Expert badge on their own websites and blogs, but, for now, I am starting with interior designers who need the CEU credits to meet and maintain their ASID, NKBA, IDS membership accreditation standards and those of their state accreditation boards, too.
If you will be attending High Point Market, I invite you to sign up for my 4 hour CEU on https://mitzibeach.com/ceu-classes/ceu-sign-up/ and be among the first designers in the country to receive my new badge for your websites or blogs, if that appeals to you, and to be listed on my site’s directory so your potential clients – local to you – can find you when they visit my site for #BoomerSmarts products and information.
Remodeling homes, to function for multi-generations, like the one shown below, is increasingly going to need well trained designers like you who can be identified as #BoomerSmarts Experts.

At Cypress, Bob and I treat our outdoor spaces like we treat our indoors, keeping in mind textures, colors and balance. In our final video on outdoor living and design, we explore our “secret garden,” including plants, design, size and nature in general. Although it is a fairly small area, it is still beautiful and relaxing all times of the year. See more in this week’s video.
One of my favorite parts of our outdoor area at Cypress is the brick sidewalk that my husband (I fondly call him Bob the Builder) constructed. In today’s video, Bob tells us about the very special brick he used for the project, as well as the steps he took to complete it. You’ll get a before and after look at the pathway, too. DIY projects are definitely so #BoomerSmarts!
Throughout our Outside at Cypress video series, we’ve looked at #BoomerSmarts outdoor design, and even some virtual before and after photo plans for our backyard. Today, my husband, Bob, joins me to discuss how he built our private retaining wall. Check out this #BoomerSmarts video for more info on the materials and processes he used to build it.
Wouldn’t it be great to see what your design project will look like before it’s actually finished? Thanks to landscape architect Leslie Elving and Pool Studio® (a 3D design and animated graphics program), Bob and I had this opportunity for our Cypress backyard. Leslie uses this program to give her clients a virtual tour of their future landscaping, before any of the construction is actually started. This is definitely #BoomerSmarts! Check out the video for a preview of our new backyard.
