Let’s face it, the holiday season can be a down right stressful time of year, from cooking to travel to preparing our homes for guests. Part of being BoomerSmarts is finding ways to better manage stress and our crazy lives, so with that said, I came up with some out-of-the-box, simple gift ideas to hopefully eliminate some of that shopping stress from your life.

These monthly subscription boxes are excellent ideas, and there are endless options to please any person in your life. The variety of products is really amazing; I found bacon, wine, puzzles, tea, crafts, make up–the list goes on and on. Most sites have subscription periods ranging anywhere from three months to a full year to fit any price range.

For the pet lover in your life, BarkBox is an excellent idea! Each month, your furry friend will receive a box with treats, toys and more! Best of all, it’s customizable.

I know you’re probably thinking that these aren’t the most personal or creative gift ideas, but I know from experience that people love gift cards! Generally, gift cards to places such as Target, WalMart, the local shopping mall, and favorite restaurants are excellent choices.

For the men in your life, car wash/detailing certificates are great! Many men I know also like Cabela’s (or other sporting goods stores), as well as The Home Depot or Lowe’s.

Starbucks or other coffee cards are perfect for teachers; you can also consider a gift card to Amazon or your local bookstore.

For those “young at heart,” why not give them a certificate to their favorite Sunday breakfast restaurant?

The gift of food is kind of a no-brainer (everyone loves food), but where to begin with this?

I think one of the coolest food options is seafood delivery from Seattle’s Pike Place Fish Market. Even in if your friends and loved ones live in the middle of the country, they can enjoy super fresh fish, crab or shellfish delivered right to the doorstep. To order, you can visit the Pike Place website

Another universally-popular choice is a Hickory Farms gift basket or box. It’s a good option for us Boomers especially. My favorite? The classic summer sausage and cheese box. You can’t go wrong!

You can really get creative with DIY gift baskets. Make them as simple or as intricate as you’d like–the choice is yours.

Do you have any creative additions to my holiday gift list? I’d love to hear them in the comments.
